Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 4, 2026
PagePup is a mobile app designed to support your child's reading practice. Your child's privacy is our highest priority. This document explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.
1. What we collect
We only retain the minimum data needed for the app to function:
- Your child's first name. The only identifier we ask for when you set up a family profile. We do not collect last names, dates of birth, or photos.
- Reading session metrics. Number of words read, accuracy of pronunciation, words your child stumbled on, time spent.
- Usage preferences. Mascot name, theme selection, daily goal, voice preferences, and similar device-side settings.
2. What we never collect
- Your child's voice. The microphone is analysed in real time, on-device. No audio file is ever stored, uploaded, or shared.
- Photos or camera footage. When you scan a page (single shot or Live OCR), the captured frame is processed locally and discarded immediately after the text is extracted.
- Location data. Never collected.
- Advertising identifiers. We do not connect to ad networks. We never request IDFA or similar tracking IDs.
3. On-device processing
Speech recognition, word alignment, progress analysis, and the weekly summary text — everything runs on your iPhone or iPad. On devices that support Apple Intelligence (iOS 26), even the language model runs on-device. None of these steps require an internet connection.
4. Cloud sync (Supabase)
To sync anonymous session metrics (session counts, word totals) across your devices, we use Supabase infrastructure. These records have the following properties:
- They are tied to an anonymous user identifier — your name, email, or your child's first name is never sent.
- Only summary numbers are stored (word counts, accuracy ratios, durations). The actual words your child read aloud are never transmitted.
- Stored on Supabase EU servers.
- You can delete every record permanently with one tap from Settings → Delete My Data.
5. iCloud sync (Family Sync PRO)
If you enable Family Sync (PRO), your settings (mascot name, theme, daily goal) are mirrored across your Apple ID's devices through iCloud Key-Value Storage. This is Apple's infrastructure; the data stays between you and Apple. PagePup itself does not access this data.
6. Children's privacy (COPPA)
PagePup follows the principles of the U.S. COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) and the EU GDPR-K framework regarding children under 13:
- No data is collected before parental consent is granted at first launch.
- We never ask the child for personal information (real name, phone, address).
- We use no third-party advertising networks.
- We retain the COPPA consent record for compliance purposes; you can delete it with one tap.
7. Third-party services
PagePup communicates with these services only:
- Apple App Store / RevenueCat: Subscription processing. No personal information is provided; subscription state is tracked through an anonymous identifier.
- Supabase: Anonymous session metric sync (described above).
- Open Library API: ISBN barcode scanning fetches book metadata. Only the scanned ISBN is sent; no child information is shared.
8. Data retention
Anonymous reading-session records remain in the cloud as long as you keep your account. When you delete your account, every session, vocabulary, and trouble-word record is permanently deleted. Only the COPPA consent record (a timestamp confirming parental approval was granted) is retained for compliance.
9. Your rights
You have the following rights, all available with one tap inside Settings:
- Export your data (Export My Data — JSON format)
- Delete all data (Delete My Data)
- Manage notification preferences
- Cancel your subscription (via the App Store)
10. Updates to this policy
We update this policy when there's a material change. The update date appears at the top of this page; you'll also see an in-app notification at the next launch.
